At the June 10, 2019 Board of Education meeting the Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport CSD Board voted unanimously to officially rename the district the Boquet Valley Central School District. The name was selected by voters who participated in a straw poll taken the day of the May 2019 budget vote. Students in grades 5 – 12 were also polled.

The District’s legal name, as required by the NYS Education Department, will be the Boquet Valley Central School District at Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport. The Boquet Valley Board passed a resolution at Monday’s meeting to adopt Boquet Valley Central School District as its simplified name.

The Board of Education also adopted navy blue and gold as the official school colors for the new District, and the Griffin as its official school mascot.

The possible names were first proposed by the ELWCSD School Identity Transition Team which has met regularly since February 2019. The public has been invited to attend all Transition Team meetings from the outset. A link to a PowerPoint presentation about the name change from the June 10, 2019 Board of Education meeting is posted on the Boquet Valley CSD Facebook page.

Although preparations for the 2019-20 school year have been in progress since the day after the merger vote, the Boquet Valley CSD officially begins operations on July 1, 2019.
